Meals on Wheels and Congregate Meals
On weekdays at noon, the kitchen serves a meal for people aged 60 plus. On Mondays, the same meal is driven by volunteers to the Tamworth town hall for their seniors. Moultonborough has facilities at the formally known Lions Club, now the Moultonboro Function Hall. They serve a noon-time meal Monday to Thursday. Also, lunch is provided Wednesday in neighboring Sandwich at the Benz Center. Home delivery is an option for qualified persons who cannot get to the congregate meals.
Meals on Wheels is a program that delivers meals to individuals at home who cannot purchase or prepare their meals. Because they are housebound, many of the recipients are elderly.
Research shows that home-delivered meal programs significantly improve diet quality, increase nutrient intake, reduce food insecurity, and improve the quality of life among the recipients. The programs also reduce government expenditures by reducing the need for recipients to use hospitals, nursing homes, or other expensive community-based services.
